British police announced on Sunday that a Leeds United fan had been charged with assault after he entered the technical area and pushed Newcastle United coach Eddie Howe in the chest during the two teams’ 2-2 Premier League draw.

The incident occurred in the last minutes of the match that was held at Elland Road, Leeds United Stadium, and as a result, the hospitality owner decided to punish the fan with a life ban.

Howe said he did not remember much about the incident but had called for greater security at matches.

West Yorkshire Police said on Twitter: “Police have charged a man with assault and intrusion following an incident at Elland Road during a football match between Leeds United and Newcastle United.

She added that the authorities released the cheerleader on bail, to appear before the judiciary on July 21.

Leeds ranks 18th with 31 points from 36 matches, one point behind Everton, who host Manchester City later today.
