“Cannes Film Festival 2022 Official Selection: 19 Films Competing for Top Honors, Including Record Number of Women Directors”

The names ! All the spotlights were on Iris Knobloch and Thierry Frémaux. The President and the General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival presented this Thursday, April 13 the Official Selection of films in competition.

The 76th Cannes Film Festival will take place May 16-27. Like every year, about a month before, the organizers announce the list of selected films.

Note: six directors in competition, a record. Among these women, two French women, directors Catherine Breillat and Justine Triet. Also note the presence of a young Senegalese filmmaker Ramata-Toulaye Sy and the Tunisian Kaouther Ben Hania. The film which will open the festival, “Jeanne du Barry” (out of competition), is also directed by a director: the Frenchwoman Maïwenn.

“Jeanne du Barry” by the French Maïwennstarring Johnny Depp. The film directed by Maïwenn and which marks the great return to the screen of the Pirate of the Caribbean, will open on May 16, and will be released simultaneously in French cinemas, the organizers announced on Wednesday.

A selection that will be completed. No animated film yet.

  • 11:30 a.m.: It’s the turn of the films presented hgold competition

We already knew: On May 20, American director Martin Scorsese will present his new film “Killers of the Flower Moon” at Cannes. This is the first time since 1986 that the filmmaker has presented a film at the mythical international festival of the 7th art.

All the spotlights are on Iris Knobloch and Thierry Frémaux. The president and general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival.

It is the new president who opens the presentation.

Iris Knobloch was born on February 13, 1963 in Germany, was originally a lawyer, and more precisely a lawyer. She was admitted to the bars of New York, California and Germany.

She spent part of her career in France, notably at Warner, one of the main American studios, where she managed the French activities, then in a wider part of Europe, until the‘last summer.

She then, last July, participated in the creation and took the lead ofI2POa financial vehicle created by the Pinault family and investment banker Matthieu Pigasse, to raise funds and make investments in the entertainment and leisure sectors.

We should also know this Thursday the composition of the jury and discover the official poster for this 76th edition.
