G7 and EU Plan to Ban Russian Gas Imports Along Disrupted Routes

The Group of Seven (G7) states and the European Union plan to ban Russian gas imports along routes where Moscow has previously cut supplies.

The newspaper reported on Sunday Financial Times with reference to the officials participating in the negotiations, writes “European Truth”.

The decision is intended to prevent the resumption of Russian pipeline gas supplies on routes to countries such as Poland and Germany, where Russia cut off supplies last year.

The final decision is going to approve the leaders of the G7 at the summit in Hiroshima, which begins on Friday.

Since launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine last year, Russia has diverted its gas supplies to countries that have not imposed sanctions against the Kremlin.

If decided, these restrictions will be the first to target Moscow’s pipeline exports since the start of a large-scale war.

As you know, the EU is now working on 11 packages of anti-Russian sanctions.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said new EU sanctions would aimed at combating circumvention of already introduced trade restrictions and developed “in very close coordination” with the G7 countries.
