Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan defended Russian President Vladimir Putin who was accused of interfering in the Turkiye presidential election on Friday (12/5/2023).
Erdogan’s secular rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, accused an unnamed Russian person of spreading deep-seated falsehoods and disinformation to influence the results of Thursday’s vote (11/5/2023).
The Kremlin has steadfastly denied the accusations, while Erdogan defended Putin in a televised campaign rally.
Erdogan maintained a good working relationship with Putin during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In the 2023 Turkiye presidential election, surveys show that Erdogan is facing stiff resistance from his secular opposition.
