Development measures to turn Al Afja into a renewable industrial zone are being intensified. 7 more new factories are opening in Al Afjah, 40 km south of Doha, in the Mizaid Industrial Zone. Authorities are in the process of developing Al Afjah as a hub for recycling industries to meet the country’s goals towards a circular economy and sustainability.

Currently there are 11 recycling factories in Al Afja. 7 new ones will start functioning soon. Municipalities Minister Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Subai stated that the construction of 12 units is in progress. The number of plots allocated for factories in Al Afja has reached 252. Of these, 53 are for recycling factories.

Al Afja area is planned to be developed in phases. The recycling industry in Al Afja region is part of a partnership between the government and the private sector to support the circular economy.

Al Afjail targets oil, medical waste, wood, metal, electronic goods, plastic, tires, batteries, construction waste sorting and recycling, bio-cement manufacturing, glass and clothing recycling. Al Afja will pave the way for a major breakthrough in the recycling sector.
