His third season could be Thiago Silva’s last at Chelsea. As reported by Brazil’s ‘Globo’, the 38-year-old centre-back wants to leave London in the summer. The Brazilian’s goal is a return to his youth club Fluminense.
The news comes as a surprise, after all, Silva only extended his expiring contract at Stamford Bridge until 2024 last February. “I’m really very happy to be able to continue my career with the Blues”the 38-year-old was quoted at the time.
However, according to ‘Globo’, Silva now regrets his extension because with Fluminense he would now have the chance to compete in the Copa Libertadores – the South American equivalent of the Champions League. From the Rio de Janeiro club, Silva joined AC Milan in 2009, where his career in European club football began.
