James Gunn, who is set to direct the upcoming Superman movie, has reportedly been actively seeking the perfect actor to play the Man of Steel. However, no one has been officially cast yet despite rumors circulating about possible candidates. According to the Hollywood Reporter, David Corenswet, who appeared in last year’s “Pearl” and is currently working on the TV adaptation of “Lady in the Lake,” is a leading contender for the role. Other actors rumored to be in the running include Tom Brittney, Andrew Richardson, and Jacob Elordi, though Elordi has reportedly not submitted himself for consideration.
In addition, Nicholas Hoult, who was once considered to play Batman, is now being considered for the role of Superman’s enemy, Lex Luthor. On the other hand, Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan, Samara Weaving and Phoebe Dynevor are reportedly being considered for the role of Lois Lane.
Despite these rumors, sources close to the production have said that screen tests have yet to be conducted and a decision on casting has not yet been made. Gunn has indicated that the studio is still very much in the process of looking for the right actors.
“Superman: Legacy” is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, and is expected to be a major step forward for DC’s movies for at least the next decade.
Gunn has not confirmed any casting decisions, and in fact, he has a policy of not discussing actors who have not yet been cast. He did, however, recently suggest through a tweet that a role has already been filled, and whoever it is, they are not a “regular player in the Superman world.” This has only fueled further speculation about who could be cast in the upcoming superhero epic.
