At this year’s poetry festival, a special emphasis is placed on the poetry of the Nordic countries, which is why Athena Farohzāda from Sweden, Sanna Karlström from Finland, Monika Osprong from Norway, Maja Lee Langvada from Denmark and Magnus Sigurdsson from Iceland are visiting Jelgava.
In addition, the festival’s participants include Miriam Reyes from Spain, Kadir Aydemir from Turkey, Marko Pogačar from Croatia, Ulrike Almut Zandig from Germany, and Chinese poet Mina Di from the USA.
Latvia is represented at the festival by three poets – Artis Ostup, Anna Auziņa and Sergejs Timofejevs.
Ukrainian poet Hrykhory Semenchuk was also scheduled to participate in the festival, but he will not be able to leave his country due to hostilities, but his poetry will be performed at the festival.
The poetry of this year’s festival guests has been recited into Latvian by Jānis Elsbergs, Guntars Godiņš, Arvis Viguls, Madara Gruntmane, Māris Salējs, Arnis Mincenhofs, Edvīns Raups and Džeids Vils.
The “Page Break” festival will end on May 13 at 18.00 with a special poetry concert in the Great Hall of the Jelgava House of Culture. All festival guests will participate in the event, reading their works accompanied by modern jazz music improvisations provided by musicians Toms Poiš, Kārlis Auziņš, Edgars Cīrulis and Rudolf Dankfelds.
The tradition of the poetry festival “Page Break” was established last year, when an international poetry event was organized for the first time in Latvia, which brought together internationally known poets from 10 countries of the world.
The second International Poetry Festival “Page Break” is organized by the association “I Did It” in cooperation with the Jelgava State City; supported by the State Cultural Capital Fund, the Office of the Nordic Council of Ministers in Latvia, the Spanish Embassy in Latvia and the Jelgava Printing Office.
