Elon Musk has announced a new Twitter CEO to replace him. She is Linda Yaccarino.
“I’m so excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!” said Elon Musk on his Twitter account.
As the new CEO of Twitter, Linda will focus on business operations. Meanwhile, Elon Musk will take care of product design and new technology.
“Looking forward to working with Linda to turn this platform into X, the everything app,” said Elon Musk.
Linda Yaccarino will start serving in six weeks, Musk announced in a tweet the day before.
“Happy to announce that I have a new CEO for X/Twitter. He’s starting in ~6 weeks!” tweeted Elon Musk.
Linda Yaccarino’s profile
Linda Yaccarino grew up in an Italian-American family, her father being a police officer and mother who never went to college.
After graduating from Penn State, he worked at Turner Entertainment for 15 years before joining NBCUniversal, where he supervised about 2,000 people, and was involved in launching its streaming service.
His work was able to transform digital advertising at the company by generating more than USD 100 billion in sales. She’s managed to forge close collaborations with major brands, spot opportunities for product placement and convince them to advertise alongside television shows – even ones with a reputation for edgy content, like Sex and the City when it first launched.
He has also built relationships with new media such as Apple News, Snapchat, Twitter and YouTube. It’s no wonder that NBCUniversal said that his figure made a major contribution to the company.
“Linda has made countless contributions to the company during her 12 years in office, and we wish her all the best,” NBCUniversal said in confirming Linda Yaccarino’s departure.
In his main career, Yaccarino was appointed by President Donald Trump to lead the Council on Sports Fitness and Nutrition in 2018. Meanwhile, in 2021, while serving as chair of the Ad Council, he partnered with the Joe Biden Administration to create a COVID-19 vaccine campaign.
Business Insider’s Claire Atkinson has followed Linda Yaccarino’s career for two decades. He believes his background in advertising can help Twitter which has seen a sharp decline in its ad sales since Elon Musk’s takeover.
“If Twitter wanted to make money better than ever, then that would be the place to start and Linda would be the ideal person to make that happen,” he said.
“He’s the kind of person I imagine Elon Musk needs,” Atkinson added. “He won’t roll over.”
His negotiating style within the industry has earned him the nickname “velvet hammer”, according to the Wall Street Journal in 2012.
Even so Yaccarino will face the challenge of running a Twitter business. Not only will he benefit, he will face intense scrutiny over how Twitter handles the spread of misinformation and manages hate speech.
