“A Tribute to Michel Goma: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a World-Renowned Stylist and Local Hero”

World-renowned stylist, local child, born in Moncrabeau in March 1932 despite his notoriety, Michel Goma remained attached to his village all his life.

Sunday, for the first anniversary of the death of the famous couturier, the mayor Nicolas Choisnel and the Moncrabeau association, yesterday, today tomorrow invited the population to the new presentation of the new look of the museum in the presence of the stylist’s family. Who was Michael Goma? A drawing enthusiast who used the benches of the Moncrabel primary school. Already he thinks only of drawing, of creating dresses from pieces of fabric cut and assembled. He already knows that sewing will be his whole life. At 19, he “went up” to Paris. He met Christian Dior, then Jeanne Lafaurie, director of a famous Parisian fashion house who hired him in 1951.

A few years later, he bought the house. His success is growing, press articles from all over the world are devoted to him and testify to his talent and creativity. In 1963 he closed his own house and joined the Patou house for haute couture.

He then succeeded Karl Lagerfeld and found in this team a young beginner, Jean-Paul Gaultier. He then travels to all the major cities of the United States and its luxury stores. In 1974, he decided to create his fashion house MG, which led him to Japan where he remains a celebrity. In 1982 he joined Balenciaga where he remained until his retirement in 1992. A book, put up for sale, is dedicated to him “Un Tour du monde avec Michel Goma”, published by the Moncrabeau association, yesterday, today tomorrow.

A patron for the village

If the museum was born in 2006, under the impetus of Annette Mazères and Stéphane Capot, it was in 2011 that the designer donated to the museum a whole collection of sketches, dresses…

Masterpieces of elegance that trace an era of fashion, know-how and creativity in Goma. A richness that the team of volunteers of the MHAD association has never ceased to highlight. Donations of his original sketches put up for sale have also supplemented the amount committed by the community for the restoration of the village church. The volunteers of the association and the community have endeavored to give a new splendor to the Goma space. Everything has been thought out to highlight the designer’s creations: dresses, sketches… A plus that enriches the village’s tourist offer for the mayor’s greatest satisfaction and will no doubt delight visitors.
