On Saturday, the “Night of the Museums” will take place again in Frankfurt, Offenbach and Eschborn. Between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. there are special offers at a total of 51 different locations.
After a three-year break due to the corona pandemic, the museums will open their doors again at unusual times next weekend – there will be exhibitions, workshops, specials and performances for guests all night long.
Diverse program
The museums not only open at night on Saturday, they also have special offers planned. At the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in Eschborn, for example, there is a photo shoot in front of the backdrop of the Beatles’ famous “Abbey Road” album comer, in the Frankfurt Zoo everything revolves around the inhabitants of the sea and the area is bathed in colorful light with spotlights .
You can get creative yourself, for example in the Klingspor Museum with upcycling or in the Bernardbau printing workshop in Offenbach. There, experiments in lithography and letterpress printing are made possible.
You can find a list of all participating museums and an overview of the program here.
Also performances and live music
In addition to the exhibitions and workshops, there are also various performances and musical acts. For example, you can see parts of Goethe’s Faust during the shadow play in the “Theatre of Twilight” in the Goethe House. The mental magician Samuel Lenz is on the move in the Bible House in Frankfurt and many of the museums have their own music for their exhibitions.
In the MOMEM, the Museum of Modern Electronic Music, for example, a DJ plays from 9:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. There will also be music in the Crime Museum – the State Police Orchestra will be playing there.
Five new houses
Of the 51 institutions taking part this year, some are also taking part for the first time: the German Romantic Museum, the Dialogue Museum, the MOMEM, the House of the Golden Scales and the art collection of the European Central Bank.
The jubilee “175 years Paulskirche” runs as a common thread through many exhibitions. For example with the rebellious roots in the Struwwelpeter Museum or protest songs in the Romantic Museum. In addition, visitors can take the rare opportunity to visit the Römer and the Paulskirche – at night.
Arrival by public transport is recommended
For arrival and departure on Saturday, the local public transport company traffiQ recommends bus and train. The space available on the Frankfurt subway lines will be significantly increased on this day – most lines run with longer trains until late at night.
Tram and subway also at night in Frankfurt
Tram line 15 runs every 15 minutes until around 1:00 a.m., as does line 16 until around 2:30 a.m. The underground lines U4, U5, U7 and U8 run all night. Tram lines 11, 12, 16 and 18 also run without interruption, as is usual on weekend nights. To make it easier to get to Frankfurt, the RMV will also use longer trains on the S-Bahn lines S1 to S6, S8 and S9 until 2.30 a.m., they explain in a press release.
Historical trams in shuttle service
The public transport offer is expanded by special tram trips between the zoo, old town and Sachsenhausen. Some of the special trips are even carried out with historic trams by the Historical Tram Association of the City of Frankfurt am Main eV.
