Why Some Destinations Prohibit Tourists from Taking Selfies

The prohibition of tourists to take selfies in some destinations in the world is increasingly common, with which the authorities want to avoid congestion or the publication of photos that damage the image of the destination, as in the case of the state of New York.

In this state, the authorities do not allow visitors to take photos with the cats in zoos or circuses. The measure has been taken to prevent people from approaching animals that represent danger and that are recorded in photos and then published on social networks, such as Tinder, where men took the famous “tiger selfie.”

Likewise, there are other destinations such as the Tower of London where, due to the security of the British Crown jewels, tourists cannot take a photo. Lake Tahoe between California and Nevada, due to the risk of a bear attack that exists in the area.

In many cases, fines are charged in case any tourist breaks the rules, such as in San Fermín, which does not allow taking photos during the running of the bulls, but if they do, they have to add a fine of 3,000 euros to the vacation or as in Portofino, Italy , which recently imposed a fine of 275 euros if selfies are taken in congested areas, such as the steps to appreciate the view of the coast, its bay, its streets and squares.

Other destinations such as in France, where daily quotas were established for visitors to protect biodiversity, such as in the Calanques National Park, in Marseille, where they consider that selfies on social networks made it fashionable and the wild terrain of the coasts became a site of pilgrimage for tourists, or that disturbs the tranquility of the area, so watered El Mundo.

as reported REPORTUR.usFor some years, tourism has been banned, as in three major tourist capitals in the West, New York, London and Paris, to regulate and restrict the business of platforms such as Airbnb as much as possible, as Berlin and Barcelona have also done. (The great tourist capitals of the world reduce Airbnb).
