US Approves $8.5 Billion Sale of 60 Military Helicopters to Germany to Strengthen Security and Prevent Regional Threats

The sale aims to “improve the carrying capabilities” of the German army, the US Defense and Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a statement.

The United States announced Thursday that it has approved the sale of 60 military transport helicopters and other equipment to NATO member Germany for $8.5 billion.

This projected sale aims to “improve the carrying capabilities” of the German army and thus allow Germany to “strengthen the security of its territory and prevent regional threats”, indicated the American Agency for Cooperation for defense and security (DSCA) in a press release.

“Improving the security of a NATO ally”

The helicopters concerned are military maneuver and attack helicopters of the CH-47F Chinook type.

This transaction would “support the national and foreign security policy of the United States by improving the security of a NATO ally, whose force is important for the political and economic stability of Europe”, specifies the communicated.

The US State Department approved the possible sale and the DSCA notified Congress on Thursday.
