Bulgarian President comments on demand for chief prosecutor’s removal

Everything will become clear when the mandate-bearing party submits the completed mandate to me, the president also said

“Ms. Gabriel’s sudden urge to demand Geshev’s removal hardly aroused my enthusiasm”. This was stated by President Rumen Radev to journalists during his visit to South Africa.

“When in 2019 I returned the SJC’s proposal to appoint Mr. Geshev as the chief prosecutor, the quota of Mrs. Gabriel’s party re-elected him, and with a majority. When I asked for Ivan Geshev’s resignation three years ago, Ms. Gabriel’s party not only supported him, but collaborated with him.

When two years ago, the acting minister of justice appointed by me requested the removal of Ivan Geshev with the same reasons, the quota of Mrs. Gabriel’s party saved him – again unanimously,” the head of state recalled.

“A very important question is hanging, whether it is 3 years late enlightenment and sudden catharsis or other interests are hidden,” the president also said.

According to him, Bulgaria has lost 3 years. “The reports of corruption submitted by my official governments remain. I hope that the future Prime Minister of Bulgaria matures in a timely manner for the important things for Bulgaria”, he also commented.

Everything will become clear when the mandate-bearing party submits the completed mandate to me,” Radev also said.
