Introducing the Nikon Z8: Full Frame CSC Camera with 52.37 MPx and UHD 8K Video

The long-awaited full frame CSC camera Nikon Z8 was introduced. It’s basically the Z9 in a more compact package for those who don’t want a built-in bottom grip. Nevertheless, it will be possible to equip the Z8 with an additional grip. The reduction of the dimensions from 149×149.5×90.5 mm to the current 144×118.5×83 mm and the weight then went from 1340 grams to 910 grams is essential. Without battery and card, it is now 820 grams. Another change is the memory card slots. The Z9 had two slots for CFexpress or XQD, the Z8, on the other hand, can handle not only CFexpress Type B and XQD, it also has a slot for SDXC cards with support up to UHS-II. In other respects, it’s basically a Z9.

So we still have a full frame CMOS sensor with dimensions of 35.9×23.9 mm and a resolution of 52.37 MPx, of which 45.7 MPx is effectively used. It can thus take pictures with a resolution of up to 8256×5504 pixels. They can be saved in 8-bit JPEG, 10-bit NEIF or 14-bit RAW (NEF). The hybrid phase focusing system manages to focus from -7 EV, even from -9 EV in Starlight mode, it can recognize 9 different types of objects. The sensor is mechanically stabilized in 5 axes, the processor is EXPEED 7.

Sensitivities range from ISO 64 to 25600, expand mode offers ISO 32 to 102400, HLG mode starts at ISO 400. Flash sync time is 1/250 s or 1/200 second, with FP up to 1/8000 second is supported. When it comes to sequential shooting, it can handle up to 20 fps, in High-Speed Frame Capture+ you can get up to 120 fps. It is also possible to use the buffer and take pictures before pressing the shutter button.

We have two USB-C ports, one for data (SuperSpeed USB), one for power (USB Power Delivery), there is also a large HDMI type A connector, 3.5mm jacks for audio input and output, there is also a 10-pin terminal for remote control and other accessories. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also supported.
