Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced Thursday that he has appointed a new CEO for his social network, and that she will start work in about six weeks.
Musk did not reveal the name of the candidate for this position, but the newspaper Wall Street Journal It quoted informed sources as saying that Linda Yacrino, advertising director at NBC Universal, was chosen by Musk for this position.
“My role will move to Executive Chairman and Chief Technology Officer, overseeing Products, Software and Computers,” Musk said in a tweet.
Yacrino has worked for more than a decade as director of global advertising and partnerships, and has a major role in finding “the best ways to measure advertising effectiveness,” according to the newspaper, not to mention her role in launching the “Peacock” broadcast service.
Musk’s announcement of a new CEO comes days before one of NBC Universal’s biggest annual promotional conferences in New York.
A spokesperson from “NBC Universal” told the newspaper that Yacrino is conducting “recurring rehearsals” for the event. It will persuade major brands to commit to billions of dollars in advertising purchases in coming seasons.
Iacarino oversees about $13 billion in annual advertising revenue, has close relationships with major marketing and advertising agencies around the world, and is known for her negotiating skills, which advertising industry workers describe as a “velvet hammer”.
After Musk’s purchase of Twitter, about 37 major advertisers refrained from advertising during the first quarter of the year, according to “Sysnor Tower” data.
The move is likely to assuage the concerns of Tesla investors, who have been increasingly concerned about the time Musk devotes to making changes to Twitter, according to Reuters.
Musk said in November that he expected to cut back his time at Twitter and eventually find a new CEO to run the social media company.
The first two weeks after buying the Twitter Mask in October saw rapid changes. He quickly fired Parag Agrawal, the former CEO of Twitter, and other senior leaders before laying off half his staff in November.
