The Paper reported on the 11th that Wu Xieyu, a gifted student at Peking University who died in the first trial on August 26 last year, will be tried again on the 19th. Since then, he has written at least three Wanyan family letters from the detention center to his uncle, aunt, and relatives and friends who were defrauded in the case. The total number of words is nearly 50,000 words. It details childhood growth, study, father’s death, murder of mother, defrauding relatives and friends, and mental journey after being brought to justice. It expresses repentance in large pages, hopes to be forgiven, and strives for “a chance to live to atone for sins.” Each letter has the same signature: “Unfilial and rebellious son Wu Xieyu”. Li Meijin, an expert in mainland criminal psychology and a professor at the Public Security University of China, once pointed out that Wu Xieyu is an “exquisite egoist” and a criminal with a high IQ. His intelligence allows him to deal with reality and all kinds of people more than enough.
Keyword 1: “Suspicion”
In the eyes of many junior high school and high school classmates and teachers, Wu Xieyu used to be a motivated and sunny image. But in the letter to his uncle, he bluntly said: “The sunny and cheerful surface is just a mask I wear to prevent my mother from worrying.”
In a letter to his father’s friend, Wu Xieyu said that after his father passed away in the first semester of high school, he was terrified and terrified every day: “My broken body may be seriously ill like my father at any time. Will die suddenly like my father. My father will die, which shows that death is very easy to happen and can happen at any time!”
Keyword 2: “examination machine”
Wu Xieyu, born in 1994, grew up in an enviable family. His father was a leader of a state-owned enterprise, and his mother was a middle school teacher. He had excellent grades and was recommended to Peking University.
In the letter sent to his aunt in the detention center, Wu Xieyu said that he had extremely low self-esteem since he was a child. He always felt: “I am an “examination machine”. I can do nothing except take the exam. I am useless except for being the first in the exam.” The first place in the test is the only meaning to my mother, and the only way for me to make my mother proud of me. If I can’t take the first place in the test, I have no meaning to my mother.”
Wu Xieyu said that he “failed” the college entrance examination. Although he went to Peking University, he always felt that his mother was very disappointed in him. No matter how hard he studied in college, he could not win the first place. “I feel that the last bit of meaning I have for my mother has disappeared. Every day in college, I live more and more tired, more and more painful, and feel more and more useless. significance.”
Keyword 3: “Revenge”
In Wu Xieyu’s memory, his father Wu Zhijian has been sick all the time, working hard every morning and night. In 2010, bad luck struck. 43-year-old Wu Zhijian died of illness in his hometown in Xianyou. The cause was the same as that of Grandpa Wu Xieyu, liver cancer.
During the trial of the first instance, Wu Xieyu said that his father’s death had a great impact on him and his mother Xie Tianqin, and he hoped to help her “get rid of it”. He once wanted to ask his mother, “If you think the same as me, let’s ‘go home’ together and return to my father.”
But he didn’t ask in the end, but he reasoned through “Leslie Cheung jumped off the building and Lin Daiyu buried flowers”, thinking that his mother also wanted to commit suicide, and then started planning to kill her mother. After committing the crime, he first defrauded relatives and friends of money, squandered it, and then fled in hiding.
The Fuzhou Intermediate People’s Court found that on July 31, 2015, Wu Xieyu left Fuzhou after committing the crime, and then lied that Xie Tianqin accompanied him to the United States for exchange and study, defrauding seven relatives and friends of a total of 1.44 million yuan. Regarding the above-mentioned payment, Wu Xieyu said in court that there was a sense of revenge at the time. He felt that these relatives and friends did not provide help when his father was sick and in distress, and finally gave up treatment and died.
Keyword 4: “Unreal World”
In the letter, Wu Xieyu attributed the root of his crime many times to the illusory world of novels and film and television.
According to statistics from The Paper, Wu Xieyu mentioned novels and film and television dramas at least 23 times in his personal letters, including “A Dream of Red Mansions”, “Notes on Tomb Raiders”, “The Muyue Pavilion”, “The Brothers Karamazov” and so on.
Wu Xieyu said that books, novels, and film and television dramas made his head really “a mess”. Since he was a child, he has never had his own judgment, and he has always been superstitious and blind to what is written in the book. go in.
Keyword five: “survive”
Wu Xieyu believes that the root cause of his heinous crimes lies in “the me in the university, the deformed and distorted ideas and the depressed and painful psychological world.”
At the same time, Wu Xieyu realized that one of his most serious problems is: since he was a child, he didn’t know how to communicate with others at all, and he never told anyone (even his parents) about his true inner thoughts and feelings.
He said, “I have been number one since I was a child, the best one. I always make my parents proud of me, but now I am going to end with such a shameful sinner? I am not reconciled! I’m only 27 years old, and I can really do a lot of things!” Wu Xieyu said in the letter.
