24 high school students Sivard-de-Beaulieuin Carentan (Manche), are considering a educational trip to UNITED STATESin 2024in the footsteps of american veterans who liberated Europe 1944.
To meet veterans
It is a tradition established by Patrick Fissot and Thomas Viel, high school history teachers, as well as Isabelle Farges, English teacher, but which had been interrupted with the health crisis.
“We hope that nothing will prevent us from making this trip in 2024”, launch the 24 students who are planning this trip. The program is already well established, with several meetings with veterans.
“Fewer and fewer veterans are able to come to Europe”
“It will be the 80e D-Day anniversary, but unfortunately fewer and fewer veterans are able to come to Europe. It is therefore our turn to meet them to discuss and above all preserve memory events. »
A cost of €3,100 per student
The young high school students will travel to Kentucky, to the headquarters of the 101e Airborne to Hopkinsville, twinned with the secondary school of Carentan. They will be housed with military families. One step to New-York is also planned.
To finance this beautiful project, whose total budget amounts to approximately €3,100 per student (“a very sharp increase compared to previous trips!”, deplore the young people), many actions are carried out, including bingo (the next will be on Saturday 1is July), a garage sale, pancake sales at various local events, including the upcoming June 6 festivities…
“We also accept dons “, specify the protagonists.
