Explorers Club Annual Dinner in New York
Kitín Muñoz, son-in-law of King Simeon II of Bulgaria, has been a member of the Explorers Club since 1997. He notably carried the flag of this club of explorers and geography, founded in 1904, during two maritime expeditions and he has become one of the most significant figures in the field of exploration of our time. His wife, Princess Kalina, only daughter of the Tsar of the Bulgarians, has also just joined the club. Kalina is the first princess member of the Explorers Club.

At the end of April, the Explorers Club organized its annual gala in the Glasshouse tower in New York. Princess Kalina and Kitín were invited to sit at the presidential table this year, alongside the club president and his wife. During this annual dinner, the biggest names in exploration meet and attend the award ceremony, which are the equivalent of the Nobel Prizes in the world of exploration.

Princess Kalina had received Richard Garriott, president of the club, and his wife, Laetitia Garriott de Cayeux, businesswoman, close to Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, at her home in Bulgaria, during a trip by the couple last summer . Princess Kalina presented the couple with her adventure plans that she plans with Kitín.
The prestigious annual Explorers Club (ECAD) dinner was the perfect occasion for Princess Kitín to wear traditional clothes. “The fact that the Princess of Bulgaria comes to ECAD wearing a traditional Bulgarian costume is important”explains Kitín Muñoz about his wife. “ECAD is the ideal place to promote and show the culture of the countries, especially since this year the theme of the dinner is preservation”.

During this evening, some insects, spiders and other small animals were presented for tasting. Princess Kalina, always in colorful outfits, had competition. Laetitia Garriott de Cayeux wore a solar tiara and a Sirenian dress. Laetitia Garriott de Cayeux is the granddaughter of André de Cayeux de Senarpont, known as André Cailleux, a French geologist whose name was given to a lunar crater. Laetitia de Cayeux is also a member of the Scientific Defense Council, the body that advises the United States Secretary of Defense.
Kitín Muñoz, meanwhile, wore the uniform of the Spanish Green Berets. The adventurer served in the Green Berets as soon as he entered adulthood. “My training in the mountains as a ‘guerrilla’ is the greatest gift a man can have at 20”, Kitín confided to us a few weeks ago, on the occasion of the publication of a book on his passage in this special operations group of the Spanish Army.
