Businessman Róbert Ľupták became the owner of another extra-league club on Wednesday. He bought MHk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš from the city for over 150,000 euros. In the past, he was the owner of Detva and Prešov, which are currently no longer among the Slovak hockey elite.
The city described its decision to sell the club to a private owner as a step to save hockey in Liptovský Mikuláš. Liptáci was the last club in the extra league that was 100% owned by the municipality. However, it gave certain obligations to the new owner.
“The winner will be obliged to undertake in the purchase contract that he will not sell the club’s license and at the same time will keep it in the city of Liptovský Mikuláš. At the same time, he will be obliged to submit a budget for the financing of the club to the city for the next two seasons. In case of failure to comply with this obligation, the city has the right to buy the club back for the same price for which it was sold.” it is written in the declaration of Liptovský Mikuláš.
In addition to Ľupták’s company R-Stav s.r.o., which will pay 151,200 euros, Tibor Višňovský and the Drevomax company were also interested in the club. For Ľupták, this will be the third city in which he will operate an extra-league club. In the past, he was the owner of Detva and Prešov, but the club from the east of Slovakia finished last in the last extra league season and said goodbye to the extra league. The penultimate Liptovský Mikuláš finished just 5 points above him.
