The work that began more than ten years ago and was about to become a white elephant, will be delivered to the community during the Grand Prix that will begin on May 11.
Neivans will witness the inauguration of one of the most important stages for the city, whose construction took more than a decade and which is essential for the training of boys, girls and young people, sports schools, their training and the development of large skills.
This was announced by Mayor Gorky Muñoz, confirming that the official inauguration of the skating rink will take place within the framework of the speed skating Grand Prix, an event that will have around 1,600 participants from different regions of Colombia, 400 clubs and at least seven invited countries, including Spain, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela. The competition will run until May 21.
The construction of the skating rink was carried out in three phases; in the first, the studies and designs, excavations, construction of a speed track, among other works, were completed in 2018. In 2020, the present Administration received the abandoned sports complex and promised to move it forward, as part of its Development Plan.
“The skating rink was on its way to becoming a white elephant, but we put on our shirts and after a series of delays the project finally began to come to life in the southern zone. Phase two that had a cost of more than 2,700 million pesos with important works such as the 400-meter flat track, stands, goal, dressing rooms, parking lots, administrative area and the 3 training tracks” said Mayor Gorky Muñoz.
The third stage of the project includes everything related to lighting, which would cost around $4,500 million pesos. With it, it is intended that the skating rink be enabled to function at night, providing better conditions for athletes for their training, and the realization of future competitions.
