Head of National Investigative Service Requests Release of Deputy over Leaked Information

Yesterday, Sarafov said that he would demand the release of Todorov because of leaked information about the investigation into the blast against the chief prosecutor

Deputy Chief Prosecutor and Director of the National Investigative Service (NSI) Borislav Sarafov has requested the Prosecution College of the Supreme Judicial Council to release Yasen Todorov as his deputy, reported “Lex“. The proposal was made today.

A day ago, Sarafov made a request that he would request the release of Todorov because of the information provided by his deputy in connection with the investigation of the explosion next to the motorcade of the chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev.

“I have a big problem with public speaking by Yasen Todorov. He does not coordinate his media appearances with me, they are his own responsibility. In my mind, I am considering whether or not to propose to the Supreme Judicial Council the release of Mr. Yasen Todorov from the administrative position of deputy director of the NSlS. He cannot and does not express positions of the National Investigation Service,” said Sarafov yesterday.

The proposal of the head of the NSlS must first be considered by the Committee on certification and competitions and then submitted for discussion and voting to the Prosecutor’s College. It is not clear whether Borislav Sarafov has stated reasons in his request and what they are.

Yasen Todorov was appointed Deputy Director of the NSLS in December 2021. The proposal for this came from Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev, not Borislav Sarafov.

Todorov has been with NSlS since 2019, where he was promoted after a competition. Before that, he was an investigator in the capital investigation, an inspector from the Inspectorate at the SJC, as well as a member of the judicial council.
