The tourist route of dinosaurs in Lourinhã, with 13 life-size models, has already been completed, in an investment of 3.5 million euros, which also included urban requalification works, revealed the municipality.
Speaking to Lusa, the councilor for the Economy, Structural Funds and Urbanism of the Lourinhã City Council, João Serra, said that the urban requalification works and the dinosaur route were concluded with the end of the works on the Parque Verde da Cegonha, where it was installed the last of the 13 dinosaur models.
The investment, which reached 3.5 million euros, aims to “improve the quality of life of residents, attract new residents and tourists and boost local trade”, said the mayor.
“We wanted to reclassify the urban space alongside the dinosaurs to attract people”, he underlined.
The Urban Dinosaur Exhibition is a three-kilometre route through the village of Lourinhã, accessible to all, along which tourists can observe life-size models of dinosaurs, such as the “Lourinhanhosaurus” and the “Dinheirosaurus”, species whose first fossils were discovered in the county, or the “Tyrannosaurus Rex”.
Next to each dinosaur there are interpretive plaques with information in Portuguese, English and Braille.
Tourists can complement the visit with information from audio guides available at the Lourinhã Chamber website.
Also according to the Mayor of Lourinhã, in the scope of the urban requalification works, the municipality concluded the Parque Verde da Cegonha and requalified the riverside axis, creating a new centrality in the village.
Parque Verde da Cegonha, budgeted at 800,000 euros, includes pedestrian routes and areas for outdoor physical exercise, with a fitness circuit, playground, playground, informal amphitheater and green spaces.
The requalification of the riverside axis within the town’s perimeter represented an investment of around 500 thousand euros.
The municipality also rehabilitated the public space on Rua Engenheiro Adelino Amaro da Costa (552 thousand euros), with the creation of pedestrian routes, improvement of car circulation and creation of parking areas, introduction of green areas, installation of urban furniture, modernization of basic infrastructure and installation of new ecopoints and charging points for electric cars.
The surroundings of Igreja do Castelo, a national monument from the end of the 14th century, underwent environmental and landscaping works (585 thousand euros), with repaving, reorganization of car circulation and parking, delimitation of pedestrian circulation and installation of new urban furniture, restoring the existing viewpoint on the site.
The former City Hall (485 thousand euros) and the Casa dos Cantoneiros (75 thousand euros) were also renovated.
The project was financed by community funds.
