This afternoon the Chamber will vote on the bill that gradually readjusts the amount of the minimum monthly income to 500,000 pesos, increases the universe of beneficiaries of the family and maternity allowance, and extends the guaranteed minimum income and the temporary subsidy to micro, small and medium enterprises. The right, however, rejected this project yesterday in the Senate’s Economy Committee and has announced its rejection in the Chamber room.
Before this announcement, the deputy Daniel Manouchehri (PS) said that “lThe right is refusing to raise the salaries of almost a million workers and they do it with the excuse of SMEs, but in the commission, when they had to vote in favor of the subsidies for SMEs, they voted against it”.
The Economic Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies dispatched to the Finance Commission the project that readjusts the minimum monthly income. However, part of the articles were rejected with votes from opposition parliamentarians, primarily the gradual readjustment of the salary towards 500,000 pesos by 2024; added to the votes against what refers to State subsidies to SMEs until 2025, to compensate for the salary adjustment of workers. The latter was also approved.
In this regard, the socialist deputy Daniel Manouchehri, a member of the commission, regretted what happened in the instance, indicating that the opposition “is not interested in raising the salaries of workers or supporting SMEs. The right is refusing to raise the salaries of almost a million workers and they do it with the excuse of SMEs, but in the commission, when they had to vote in favor of the subsidies for SMEs, they voted against it”.
“The right is not interested in workers or SMEs. The only thing that interests them is making waves to the government, but they have to know that when they harm the government they are not harming the government. What they are doing is harming millions of Chileans who benefit from these policies”, criticized the head of the Bancada de Diputadas and Diputados PS.
Likewise, the deputy Ana María Bravo, deputy head of Bank and member of the commission, stressed that the rejection of the readjustment “is a terrible sign from the right. They argue that SMEs were not considered, which is not true because an agreement was reached with SMEs, with unions, even with more unions than last year. SMEs also have a subsidy and have support so that they can solve this increase in remuneration”.
“The workers of this country need to raise their salaries and we want to call on the right. Tomorrow, when they vote in the Chamber, they should do it thinking about Chile, not about the small political calculus”, concluded the deputy Manouchehri.
