“Champion, Gandin, and Zoccarato Lead Bike Race with Thibaut Pinot Close Behind”

The trio formed by Thomas Champion (Cofidis), Stefano Gandin (Team Corratec – Selle Italia) and Samuele Zoccarato (Green Project-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè) are still leading the race. They have an edge around the minute over the pack.

Their action began in the very first kilometers of the stage, promoted by the Corratec couple made up of Zoccarato and Martin Marcellusi, Gandin and Thibaut Pinot (Groupama FDJ). The Frenchman was interested in winning points for the blue jersey of best climber at the Passo Serra GPM (3rd category). In fact, after cutting him in first position, he got up. Champion then returned to the treads, while Marcellusi pulled away. At the flying finish line of Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, however, Gandin passed first, ahead of Champion and Zoccarato.
