“Rally de Portugal 2023: Schedule, Sections & World Championship Standings”

The 56th edition of the Rally de Portugal starts this Thursday and runs until Sunday.

After the Monte Carlo Rally, Sweden, Mexico and Croatia, Portugal receives the fifth scoring race for the World Rally Championship (WRC), out of a total of 13.

In all, there are 19 stages between the 11th and 14th of May, with 329.06 kilometers timed to be completed, among a total of 1,636.25 kilometers in the center and north of the country.

The race starts with the «Shakedown» in Baltar, in the municipality of Paredes, on Thursday morning. On Friday, there are double stops at Lousã, Góis, Arganil and even a stop at Mortágua, before the debut of the super special stage in Figueira da Foz.

On Saturday, the competitors head north, to the Vieira do Minho, Amarante and Felgueiras sections, which also have double crossings, before the popular Lousada super special, on the Costilha track.

On Sunday, there is also the Paredes section, which precedes the first passage through the Fafe special and the Cabeceiras de Basto qualifying, before the last special, in a «Power Stage» regime, with the attribution of 15 extra points for the five fastest , in Fafe.

The World Ranking

After four races, the World Championship has three Toyotas at the top: Sébastien Ogier and Elfyn Evans are tied with 69 points, followed by Kalle Rovanpera, with 68. Next is Ott Tanak (Ford) with 65 and also Thierry Neuveille, the best Hyundai, with 58 points.

Different winners since 2015

Since 2015, the Rally de Portugal has not had repeated winners and there have been seven editions. In 2015, he won Jari-Matti Latvala (Volkswagen). Kris Meeke followed in 2016 (Citroen), Sébastien Ogier in 2017 (Ford), Thierry Neuveille in 2018 (Hyundai), Ott Tanak in 2019 (Toyota), Elfyn Evans in 2021 (Toyota) and Kalle Rovanpera in 2022 (Toyota). . In 2020 it was not held due to covid-19.

Markku Alen and Sébastien Ogier, with five wins each, are the biggest winners of the Rally of Portugal.
