An eco-citizen day between gendarmes and schoolchildren is the initiative of the town hall of Vaux (Allier). During this day, each schoolboy is taken under the wing of a student from the 8th gendarmerie company of Montluçon. Between ecological gestures and learning military values, these schoolchildren have joined the ranks of the gendarmes.
Next to the ranks of the 109 students of the 8th gendarmerie company of Montluçon (Allier), those of the schoolchildren of the Val de Cher pale in comparison, this Tuesday, May 9. But the eyes full of intrigue relax when the ranks break. And that is the whole objective of this day, according to Captain Franck, commander of the 8th gendarmerie company of Montluçon: “Create a bond, try to break this barrier with the children: sometimes the fear of the gendarme, the fear of the policeman… At the same time, share certain values with them, try to discuss our profession.”
“Hello, who wants to come with me?” launch the gendarmes. What better way to bond than walking? On the trail, the children’s sneakers rub shoulders with the rangers. With this meeting of the youngest, some of the student gendarmes become aware of what their future role represents, indicates Matthias, student at the gendarmerie school of Montluçon: “We don’t expect there to be such an impact, of arriving in close order, on the way people look at us… Some people are a little scared, others on the contrary, who are very interested. It is very interesting to be in contact with these young people.”

On the program, tree planting, or even topography. Primary students try their hand at the compass, accompanied by soldiers. And the uniform seems to be out of mind at this point in the day. Noah congratulates himself: “They are very nice, very very nice! I expected severe gendarmes, who are very straight.” Her comrade Léa adds: “It really is a very beautiful job.” Little May is in awe: “It’s good because it helps people. They are saviors, a bit.” Perhaps some of these schoolchildren have found a vocation there. For their part, 80 of these gendarmes will parade on the Champs-Elysées on July 14.
