Anaheim Ducks’ Prospects Sweep Junior Circuit Defenseman of the Year Awards

For the very first time in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL), a team saw three of its prospects win the title of defenseman of the year in its junior circuit.

This club that probably rejoices thinking about its future on the blue line is that of Anaheim. Indeed, the Ducks saw Tristan Luneau (QMJHL), Olen Zellweger (WHL) and Pavel Mintyukov (OHL) get their hands on the prestigious honor.

Luneau, of the Gatineau Olympiques, was a second-round pick (53rd overall) of the California team in the 2022 draft. The same year, the Ducks made Mintyukov the 10th overall pick of the auction. Zellweger was the team’s second-round pick (34th overall) in 2021.

In the case of the representative of the western league, this is the second year in a row that he has been chosen as the best defenseman in his circuit. This season, he has worn the colors of the Everett Silvertips and the Kamloops Blazers. Zellweger is also guaranteed to participate in the next Memorial Cup tournament, since he is part of the host team.

In addition, the Ducks also own the rights of the holder of the title of defensive defender of the year in the Quebec junior circuit, Tyson Hinds.
