World Judo Championships in Doha: Canadian brilliance in the third day competitions
The Swiss Nils Stamp won the men’s singles gold for under 73 kg, on the third day of the World Judo Championships “Doha 2023” held in Qatar, in the Ali bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Hall in Al-Sadd and continues until May 14, with the great participation of world champions and top rankers. Canada’s Krista Deguchi won the women’s singles gold in the under-57 kg category.
The third day’s competitions for men and women witnessed strong competition between the champions. In the weight of under 73 kg for men, 55 players competed, who were divided into 4 groups, from the preliminary rounds to the final rounds, where the Swiss Nils Stamp managed to win the gold by defeating the Italian Manuel Lombardo in the final. Uzbekistan’s Murodgon Yuldushav won the bronze medals, defeating Canadian Artir Margaldon, and Japan’s Soashi Hashimoto, who defeated Azerbaijan’s Hedayat Heydarov.
In the women’s category, under-57 kg competitions were held with the participation of 50 players, who were divided into 4 groups, and competed with each other from the preliminary rounds to the final rounds, where Canadian Krista Deguchi managed to win the gold by defeating the Japanese Haruka Funakobo, while the Mongolian bronze medalist Ankh Likhakvatoko by defeating Korean Mimi Huh, and the other Canadian, Jessica Klimkit, by defeating Turkish Hacert Bozkurt.
The championship competitions will continue on its fourth day, on Wednesday, with the preliminary matches for the weight of under 81 kg for men, with the participation of 51 players, who will compete from the preliminary rounds to the final match, and for the weight of under 57 kg for women, with the participation of 50 players.
