New York State Governor Kathy Hochul ordered Tuesday unlock billion dollars to help the city in which a new massive arrival of migrants is expected from the southern border of the country upon expiration of Title 42.
Besides, ordered to mobilize 500 additional agents of the National Guard to join the thousand already deployed in logistical assistance tasks for migrants, both at the main arrival station and the shelters where they are housed.
The billion that Hochul will deliver to the city will go mainly to:
- Accommodation costs, with 741 million dollars.
- Deployment of agents, with 162 million dollars.
- Health care, with 137 million dollars.
And other concepts such as assistance for the disabled, legal advice, transportation or voluntary relocation of families.
The executive order seeks to distribute in a more agile way “the necessary resources to the municipalities that take on the asylum seekers”, who have already shown themselves against welcoming a part of the immigrantsas requested by the mayor of New York, the democrat Eric Adams.
The mayor of New York announced Friday that the city has received more than 60,000 immigrants since last August that occupy 120 hotels and several large hostels.
Given the saturation, immigrants have begun to be sent to hotels in the counties of Rockland y Orangethe first to the outskirts of the city, where they will be for four months.
Hochul remembered that has already asked President Joe Biden for federal helpboth financial and legal, and specifically “shorten the periods until asylum seekers can work legally”, alluding to the bureaucratic difficulties that prevent them from obtaining a work permit (between one and two years) and often forced to work in the dark.
