The planes are scheduled to be delivered between 2027 and 2033. The order is the largest ever for an Irish firm to buy products from the United States, Ryanair said. Due to the scope of the order, the general meeting of the airlines scheduled for September 14 will also deal with the transaction.
“The Boeing-Ryanair partnership is one of the most productive in the history of commercial aviation, enabling both companies to succeed and expand affordable travel for hundreds of millions of people,” said Boeing President and CEO Dave Calhoun.
“Nearly a quarter of a century since our companies signed the first outright purchase of aircraft, this landmark agreement further strengthens our partnership,” he added in a press release message.
The Boeing 737 MAX 10 is a larger version of the original 737 MAX aircraft and is also more economical. The capacity is up to 228 seats depending on the configuration, which is 21 percent more than the older version of the 737 NG. Ryanair said that the contract is responding to the growth in demand for air travel and that it will create more than 10,000 well-paid jobs in the future – for pilots, cabin crew and mechanics.
Ryanair is the largest low-cost airline in Europe and Boeing is its exclusive aircraft supplier. The companies have been fighting over the prices of airplanes for the past year and a half, and they have resolved the disputes only now.
