“Global Vehicle Sales Report 2023: Top-Selling Models and Automakers Worldwide”

43 percent of them were sold in the United States and Canada.

In 2023, JATO Dynamics released a full report on global vehicle sales for the past year. It shows that 79.4 million new cars have been sold worldwide. This is two percent less than in 2021, with declines in key markets North America, Europe and China. Emerging markets grew (we are talking about India, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa). But this is not the most interesting information from the report.

It is also interesting what they bought in April in Ukraine

According to data obtained by JATO, the Toyota RAV4 was the best-selling model in the world last year with over a million units. The crossover was followed by the Toyota Corolla with approximately 992,000 sales last year, and third was the Tesla Model Y with 747,000 global registrations. In total last year Toyota had five best-selling models in the world. Ford, Nissan and Honda placed one model each, while Tesla made it into the top 10 with two models each.

Considering the numbers above, it’s perhaps not surprising that Toyota was the world’s largest automaker, selling 13 out of every 100 new passenger cars. The Japanese company managed to achieve a 0.3 percent increase in global sales thanks to strong results in China, which is now the largest market, ahead of the US and Japan. The Volkswagen Group was the world’s second-best-selling auto conglomerate last year, despite a significant 10 percent decline in sales. Hyundai-Kia was third, followed by Stellantis and General Motors.

The JATO report also shows that BYD was the fastest growing automaker last year. The Chinese company received 1.5% of the world share and now has 2.42% of the world market. The brand was also the world’s second largest manufacturer of battery electric vehicles after Tesla. In the EV segment, 7.37 million EVs were sold last year, up 2.9 million units from 2021. BEV accounted for 9.3% of the global automotive market.
