Four Indonesian Police Officers Suspected of Negligence in Detainee Death at Tanjung Perak Port

East Java Regional Police (East Java) stated that 4 members of the Tanjung Perak Port Police were suspected of violating discipline because they did not take good care of the detainees resulting in the fatal beating of a suspect in the drug case with the initials AK. The four members of the Tanjung Perak Port Police who were allegedly negligent consisted of an officer and three non-commissioned officers.

Reported detikJatim, Tuesday (9/5/2023), the four persons have been examined by the East Java Regional Police Propam. The four police officers served at the Detainee Treatment and Evidence Unit (Sat Tahti) of the Tanjung Perak Port Police.

“After an in-depth examination by Bid Propam, there were actions that were not taken by our members, namely not taking care of the prisoners properly, with full responsibility. There were four unscrupulous members of our team who were suspected of having committed disciplinary violations. Three of the brigadiers and one officer who in charge of detainees and evidence at the Tanjung Perak Harbor Police,” said the Head of Public Relations East Java Regional Police Kombes Dirmanto.



Regarding the beating of drug detainees, the police have named 13 other detainees as suspects. The fact of the beating was revealed after Sittiya, AK’s wife, reported to the Propam Division East Java Regional Police.

Sittiya said her husband had no injuries or bruises when he was arrested. Then she gets the news that AK died.

Upon seeing her husband’s body, Sittiya found lumps and scars. Sittiya suspects that her husband was the victim of abuse when he was detained.
