The head of the Russian PMC “Wagner” Yevgeny Prigozhin announced on Monday that his troops begin to receive the ammunition, necessary for the pressure of their advance to capture the long-besieged eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut.
“Today the groups advanced a maximum of 130 meters. Fierce battles are being fought, but the groups continue to advance,” Prigozhin said in an audio message posted on social media and quoted by Reuters. According to preliminary data we are starting to get ammunition. We haven’t seen them in action yet.”
Prigogine claims that Ukrainian forces are limited to an area of about 2.36 square kilometers in the city.
We recall that Bakhmut has been under Russian attack for more than nine months, with Wagner spearheading repeated attempts to advance the city with 70,000 inhabitants before the war.
The Ukrainian commanders vowed to maintain control of the city despite Russia’s bid to capture it in time for Tuesday’s Victory Day holiday commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany
Last week Prigogine threatened to withdraw his forces unless they received the necessary ammunitionbut subsequently retracted the threat.
On May 7, he stated that the Russian Ministry of Defense has promised to supply him with all the necessary quantity ammunition and armaments to continue fighting in Bakhmut.
Kadirov is ready and replace Prigozhin in Bakhmut
After the threat that “Wagner” is withdrawn
In addition, according to Prigozhin, to Sergei Surovikin, commander-in-chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces and deputy commander of the Russian group in Ukraine, is entrusted and will deal with the issues of interaction between PMC “Wagner” and the Department of Defense. Which would also mean with the regular supplies for the private military company.
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov declared his fighters ready – above all the “Akhmat” battalion – to take over the functions of “Wagner” and complete the Bahmut intention, for which a fierce battle has been fought for more than half a year, to be captured.
