David Simão, Arouca player, speaking to Sport TV, after the defeat, at home, against FC Porto (0-1), in a game of the 31st round of the League:
FC Porto’s goal before the break, was it decisive?
– Yes, I think it could have been more of us, because until the FC Porto goal we could have had more of the ball. FC Porto’s goal is one of FC Porto’s strengths, they are constantly looking for depth and crosses. Anyway, they had an opportunity from Taremi to the bar and the goal, I don’t remember much more about FC Porto. So, I think it was a divided game, we controlled FC Porto well, which is a difficult team that ended up, ironically, losing some time. They accuse us, the little ones, of doing it so much, but when they need to, and well, they do it too. It shows that they also had respect for us and felt that the game was difficult.
Was that why that conversation with Pepe?
– Exactly, it’s a recurring conversation, weekend after weekend, the so-called small ones who play with the big ones, when they draw or win, are always accused of wasting time. It’s not always like that, they have weapons that we don’t have and they make us run a lot more. It wears out. I was saying to him that they did it, and in my opinion well, because they felt that the game was not easy. It was a friendly conversation, Pepe is a great player, a great champion, a great captain. I have a lot of respect for him, for the career he’s had, but it was a natural conversation.
Does this result not pinch the fight for Europe?
– Above all, the team is confident because they play well. The points are a consequence of what we do, let’s keep going, there are three more rounds, it’s increasingly difficult to earn points. The teams are tired, the championship is already long, but we, with the usual humility, will try to win the three points.
