Pokémon GO loses revenue – revenue drops by almost half
What is it about ? In an article from the online portal mobilegamer.biz, the monthly earnings of various popular mobile games were reported. The data was reportedly collected using the “Appmagic” analytics program, which is used in the mobile phone industry to collect and evaluate data from different apps. Data for Pokémon GO, however, reveals that the mobile game saw a huge drop in revenue last month.
Concretely, Pokémon GO would have generated around 34.7 million dollars in April 2023, which is obviously a lot of money, but looking at the previous months, the turnover of the game seems to have halved. In February, the game still achieved a turnover of 57.9 million US dollars, in March this figure was still 42.8 million. Unlike February 2023, Pokémon GO’s turnover therefore fell by around 40%. According to mobilegamer.biz, this would be the lowest amount since February 2018, five years ago.
Pokémon GO loses revenue – Hence the anger of players
Here’s why Pokémon GO players are so angry: In recent weeks, the Pokémon GO community has been in turmoil. When developer Niantic announced that the game’s remote raid functionality would be severely limited, the Pokémon GO community reacted angrily. Additionally, the much-loved raid ability has come with a huge price increase. Remote raid players should also receive fewer rewards.
Although the community cried foul and even wrote an open letter to the developer, Niantic implemented the changes as expected, which caused even more discontent among gamers. Within the Pokémon GO community, players constantly feel misunderstood by Niantic and are increasingly turning away from this popular game. So far, Nianitc has apparently been able to afford to lose players. But if revenue continues to fall, the developer could take action.
Pokémon GO Loses Revenue – Here’s The Community’s Reaction To This Announcement
Here is the reaction from the community: On Reddit, where the article has seen its greatest circulation, players are discussing the announcement at length. Many gamers are even happy about the huge loss in revenue, as they hope Niantic understands the sign of gamers, who remain very unhappy with the new changes and price increases.
- deant2912 writes “Well, that’s what they deserve for treating their fan community so horribly. I haven’t opened the game for a few months because of the annoying events and bad rewards”.
- SilberGoon completes: “That doesn’t surprise me at all. I still play every day, but haven’t used a remote raid pass since the higher cost was introduced.
- Leonard Tringo comments: “Even though Pokémon GO is recovering from its recent decisions, I feel like the damage has already been done. My local raid group, which has been around since raiding began, is now basically dead. About 100 members, who reportedly post at least a handful of raids every day, haven’t posted a new raid for a few weeks. […] It’s really impressive to see how tenacious this company can be with its fan community.
