Peak rain meteor Eta Lyrid will occur on Tuesday (9/5) from 22.15 WIB until dawn on Wednesday (10/5). Rain This meteor can be witnessed in the northern sky.

“This meteor shower is at its peak which can be seen from the direction of the constellation Lyra, in the northern sky,” wrote @bosschaobservatory on Instagram, Wednesday (3/5).

Because it is in the northern sky, the southern part of the Earth will see this meteor shower in a smaller number.

Eta Lyrid itself occurs during May 3-12, but the peak only occurs on May 9.

This phenomenon that occurs every year between April 19 and May 28 is due to the Earth passing through the debris region of comet C/1983 H1 (IRAS-Araki-Alcock).

However, the Eta Lyrid meteor shower has a population index with a value of 3. The population index itself refers to the distribution of meteor magnitudes. The smaller the index, the brighter the meteor, the bigger, dimmer the meteor.

To enjoy this celestial phenomenon, you should find an area away from city lights for the best views. Give it about 30 minutes in the dark for your eyes to adapt.

This means you don’t look at any light, including your cell phone. Also, look towards the far side of the Moon.

The Eta-Lyriid meteor shower is the third space phenomenon to occur in May 2023. Previously there was the Penumbral Lunar Eclipse phenomenon and the Eta Aquariid meteor shower which occurred on Saturday (6/5).
