Theater Museum Celebrates 20th Anniversary and Inaugurates New Audiovisual Exhibit

The Theater Museum celebrates its 20th anniversary tomorrow, May 9, since its inauguration, being the benchmark for the Museums of the Caesaraugusta Route. Since its inception in 2003, 866,406 visitors have passed through it (counting until April 2023), with 2019 being the most productive year (52,650 people). That is why the Culture service has scheduled the inauguration of the new audiovisual, in which both the discovery of the archaeological remains and the subsequent construction of the museum are explained, for Saturday the 13th, as well as free admission to the museum.

The Roman theater of Caesaraugusta was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 2001, in the Monument category, by the Government of Aragon. It was the last built of the four Roman heritage site museums that make up the Caesaraugusta Route: Forum (1995), Public Baths (1999), Puerto Fluvia (2000) and the Theater itself. It is estimated that it reached a height of 25 meters (the same as the roof is currently), had a capacity of 6,000 spectators and was the third largest in Hispania.

museum activities

The Theater Museum hosts a large number of activities in its facilities, due to the fact that it is the space with the largest capacity of municipal museums, as well as the possibility of doing them both in the cafeteria and outdoors (in the Pulpitum).

In the assembly hall, meetings are held open to the public with the authors of the books that are read in the Caesaraugusta Reading Club, the live recordings of the podcast of the museums of the Route (Roman Stories) and the conferences of the Cocinando cycle Culturas, which has a subsequent tasting on the terrace on the second floor. In addition, the museum has become the headquarters of the Zaragoza International Film Festival and Saraqusta History Series.

In addition to these activities typical of the museums on the Caesaraugusta Route, there are those included in other programs, such as Museums and Women (the visit of Goddesses and Mortals takes place in the theater, where the power of some Roman women is discovered), Al family museum (The protective bells) and educational activities for schoolchildren.
