“Russian Government Organizing Fake Protests in Europe to Cause Division”

NOS News

The Russian government is organizing fake protests in a number of European cities, including the Netherlands. This is reported, among others, by the Danish public broadcaster DR. The fake protests should cause division in Europe over the war in Ukraine, according to leaked documents from Russian intelligence services.

Protests in ten European cities always feature the same Russian men with the same protest signs. For example, at the climate protest in The Hague in January, a man stood holding a sign calling to stop sending weapons to Ukraine. The same man also stood at a protest in Brussels.

DR, in collaboration with a number of other European broadcasters, has tracked down ten such fake protests in the period from December last year to March this year. The men with protest signs have been seen in The Hague, Paris, Brussels and Madrid.

‘Massly visited’

The fake demonstrators were always photographed with other demonstrations in the background, such as a demonstration by healthcare workers in Brussels, and a protest in Paris against French pension reforms.

The photos of the ‘demonstrations’ were supposed to make it look like the fake pro-Russia demonstrations were being visited en masse. They were then circulated on social media, including Facebook groups and YouTube.

The broadcaster has contacted a few men who took part in the fake demonstrations, but they did not want to respond to questions.
