The international media has nothing but praise for Max Verstappen’s performance. The morning papers saw a relentless race of catch-up from the Red Bull Racing driver, making it clear that the Dutchman is still the favorite for the title. The victory was also welcome after Sergio Pérez’s victory in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The media sees that Mexican has been put back on earth by his teammate.
Verstappen’s comeback is much discussed in the morning papers. The Sports Gazette calls the Red Bull driver’s catch-up race ‘monstrous’, but also sees it as a kind of personal attack. “It was as if he was taking revenge on Pérez,” the Italian newspaper refers to the words the Mexican spoke after qualifying. Pérez said he would not run into Verstappen on a normal day. “With supernatural tire management and a ruthless overtaking action on Pérez, Verstappen left his mark.”
It is not the first time that Verstappen managed to convert a moderate qualifying into a victory. Last year, the reigning world champion won the Hungarian Grand Prix after having to start from tenth place. However, the victory in Miami also had an extra dimension, as Pérez could have taken the lead in the championship with a victory. “This comeback in the Miami Grand Prix was one of the most impressive victories for Verstappen, who looks set to go for his third title.”
‘Perez had no answer’
At the Spanish Brand the focus is on Fernando Alonso’s fourth podium finish this season. The newspaper thinks that the Aston Martin driver is the only driver who can make it a bit difficult for Red Bull. Yet there was only one driver who really claimed victory in Miami. “With a fantastic performance, Verstappen beat as many rivals as possible and also made sure that Checo Pérez had no answer.”
“Appropriate that Verstappen made it clear that he did not want to give up his crown”
For Britain, there was much to celebrate over the weekend. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished P4 and P6 respectively, and the new king was also crowned. In the coronation weekend it was fitting that Verstappen had to make it clear that he has no desire to relinquish his Formula 1 world championship crown. The Guardian. “The Dutchman delivered a relentless and flawless performance to win the Miami Grand Prix.”
Their car works on every track and surface and is still miles ahead of its rivals. Verstappen himself already took a possible victory into account. The driver agreed with this The Guardian also sends a strong signal to his teammate. “He made good use of a tire strategy that proved to be crucial in giving him the advantage over Pérez. It was another performance from the world champion that showed why he remains the favorite to win a third title this season.”
