“Dengue Outbreak in Argentina: 84,433 Cases Reported, Qdenga Vaccine Approved”

Argentina has reported 84,433 cases of dengue with 78,725 acquired in the country through April, according to the Ministry of Health. The virus is currently circulating in 16 jurisdictions over four regions: Central Region (Buenos Aires, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe), NEA region (Corrientes, Formosa, Chaco), NOA region (Catamarca, Jujuy, La Rioja, Salta, Santiago del Estero, Tucumán), and Cuyo Region (San Luis and Mendoza). The predominant circulation of DENV-2 has been registered in the country, followed by DENV-1 and DENV-3. The Ministry of Health reported a lower number of cases for the third consecutive week, indicating a downward trend at the country level. However, 56 deaths have been recorded so far. The approval of the Qdenga dengue vaccine in Argentina aims to combat the spread of the disease. Meanwhile, neighbouring countries are also experiencing an increase in cases of Zika, chikungunya, and dengue.
