The association of Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), ChartràVélo, organizes Wednesday, May 10, 2023 a screening of the documentary Why we cycle by Gertjan Hulster on the occasion of the month of May by bike and a few days before the launch of the Les Vieilles Pédales festival in Chartres.
As the fine weather arrives and the number of cyclists increases month after month, ChartràVélo wanted to organize this screening debate “to understand how the bicycle has become a major vector of travel in the Netherlands”.
About thirty people who know a radius of it
In which city do we want to live? And how to get around? The documentary Why we cycle ? (Why the bike?) is a conversation both rich and pretty around these questions, talking about the bike.
About 30 people explain the impact of cycling on their lives and on Dutch society, which has been organized around the bike for only 46 years. The originality of the documentary is that it goes beyond the advantages of cycling that we already know…
A documentary that explores unsuspected benefits that explain “the well-being that not only tourists talk about after a visit to the Netherlands, but also children, the elderly, employees, psychologists, urban planners…”
The ChartràVélo association
The Chartràvélo association has existed since 2012 and brings together around twenty members from all walks of life.
Its objectives are to promote the use of bicycles, support public policies, and train users to travel by bicycle (Vélo-école with the 3Rs). Twice a month, it organizes Bicycode anti-theft marking sessions, particularly at Place des Epars.
Across France, more than 2000 events around cycling are organized on the occasion of the Mai à Vélo event, of which about thirty in Eure-et-Loir.
ChartràVélo wishes raise the debate on the bicycle space in town.
Should it be a complementary and bucolic mode of travel? Or should our cities support active travel more strongly in the city?
The screening will be followed by a debate in the presence of elected officials and association leaders on the place of cycling in our territories in Chartres and Eure-et-Loir.
Screening and debate at the Les Enfants du Paradis cinema, Wednesday May 10, 2023 at 8 p.m. The session is priced at 10 euros. Reservations ICI.
