The ministry also supports the right of local governments to limit the sale of alcohol on holidays and weekends and to raise the age limit for buyers up to 21 years old if the drink is stronger than 17.5 percent, reports “RIA Novosti”.
Currently, in Russia, alcohol is sold in stores from 8 to 23, regions are entitled to set their own limits. According to official data, 6.44 liters of pure alcohol or ethyl alcohol were sold in Russia last year per inhabitant. In Latvia, this indicator is almost twice as high, reaching 12.7 liters.
