It became known that Microsoft developers are planning to add the ability to pin widgets to the Windows 11 desktop. In general, this feature will strongly resemble the “Gadgets” that were available in Windows 7.

Since the launch of Windows 11 in 2021, platform users have been able to access a widget bar that hides off-screen until the Widgets button on the taskbar is pressed. The panel allows you to use the news widget, as well as several other customizable widgets. In 2022, Microsoft opened the widget panel to third-party developers.

The development of this tool continues systematically. The next step in this direction will be the ability to pin widgets to the Windows 11 desktop. Microsoft believes that this will increase interest in widgets. Users will be able to place widgets anywhere on the desktop, which means that the new feature will work similar to how it looked in Windows 7.

The library of available widgets is filling up rather slowly, currently it contains 13 widgets. Developers are also expanding the capabilities of the widget panel itself. Not so long ago, a full-screen panel mode and an updated widget selection tool became available. When the ability to place widgets on the desktop may become public is still unknown.
