Mubasher: The Minister of Finance of the Lebanese caretaker government, Youssef Al-Khalil, appeared today, Friday, before the European judicial delegation that is visiting Lebanon for the third time since the beginning of this year to hear bankers as witnesses in European investigations taking place in France, Germany and Luxembourg regarding cases of financial corruption and money laundering related to a company he owns. Raja Salameh, Shafiq, Governor of the Banque du Liban, amid suspicions that the company is a sham and aims to transfer funds from Lebanon to European countries.
The minister’s hearing lasted for nearly three hours, while the delegation continued to meet with the first investigating judge, Charbel Abu Samra, in the hall where the investigation took place, and Al-Khalil was interrogated as a witness in his capacity as a former director of operations at the Central Bank of Lebanon before he assumed the ministry on the tenth of September 2021, according to the agency. The hearing of the Minister of Finance is the last session of the European judicial delegation, which includes judges from France, Germany and Luxembourg, on its third visit to Lebanon this year to hold hearings for witnesses in cases pending in European Union countries.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salameh, appeared for investigation before the European judicial delegation in two investigative sessions on the 16th and 17th of last March, in the second visit of the judicial delegation, which, during its first visit last January, heard the testimony of 11 Lebanese bankers.
