“The Billionaire Feud between Louis Bacon and Peter Nygard: Lawsuits, Lies, and Crippling Accusations”

Bacon and Nygard lived side by side for many years at Clifton Bay, a beautiful natural bay on the turquoise waters of one of the islands of the Caribbean archipelago.

But eventually a fight ensues. Bacon, the founder of hedge fund Moore Capital whose current fortune is estimated at $1.6 billion by Forbes, is wildly annoyed by the boisterous, exclusive parties at the estate of the flamboyant Nygard, the Finnish-born founder of women’s fashion company Nygard International.

High-rise quarrel

Bacon decides in 2005 to redecorate the driveway to his house and has walls installed. But this creates problems with drainage, resulting in smelly puddles teeming with mosquitoes. A conflict is born.

That ends in one whole series of lawsuits in which both parties demand tens of millions of dollars in damages from each other for years. The quarrel goes so far that the two barely set foot in the Bahamas.

Nygard is now getting the short end of the stick. A judge in New York said he spent nearly a decade accusing Bacon of insider trading, arson, and even having ties to the Klu Klux Klan for nearly a decade.

Nygard, who according to the court spent $15 million to spread lies about Bacon, must pay Bacon a total of $203 million, in part to compensate for all legal costs incurred, reports the Financial Times.

Sexual abuse and extortion

But Nygard was arrested by Canadian police in 2020 at the age of 79. The ‘Canadian Epstein’ is accused by dozens of women in America and Canada of sexual abuse, extortion and trafficking in women, which largely took place in the Bahamas.

That same year, Nygard’s company filed for bankruptcy, making it uncertain how much compensation Bacon will receive.
