Caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi confirmed, “We have informed our position to the UNHCR, and they are in the process of handing over the data of the displaced Syrians,” stressing that “we will not accept granting residency to the displaced Syrians in Lebanon.”
He pointed out, in an interview with the “LBC” channel, that “the illegal entry makes the number of Syrians much greater,” stressing “the need for the safe return of the displaced Syrians” to their country.
Mawlawi explained, “We want all the data for the displaced Syrians, and this is a sovereign decision, and we are in the process of regulating the presence of the Syrian displacement,” considering that “it is unacceptable that Lebanon is absent from the meetings regarding the displaced.”
