Deputy Chief Prosecutor Sarafov Clarifies Misconceptions About Prosecutor General Explosion Incident

“Aware of the interest of the Bulgarian public in the case of the explosion next to the car of the chief prosecutor, I would like to make a clarification to help stop the manipulations on the subject. I would like to clarify that my words spoken by me at the briefing on May 1 in the vicinity to the scene of the accident, namely: “only one coincidence saved both the Prosecutor General and his family, as well as a number of random people”, were pronounced, since I myself was misled by Mr. Geshev’s words that he was worried about the children you are.”

This was stated in a position sent to BTA by the director of the National Investigation Service and deputy chief prosecutor Borislav Sarafov.

Sarafov said he was sorry if he had caused any confusion that the attorney general’s family was traveling with him.

He clarified that this information was not brought out by him first. “By the way, if you follow the media coverage of the case, you will notice that the next day – May 2, in front of the Council of Ministers building, I correctly answered the question: “Who was in the car with the chief prosecutor”, adds Sarafov.

Earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev stated that Ivan Geshev’s family was not traveling with him when the incident occurred.

“I want to emphasize that I will not go out on the muddy political terrain – I am a narrow professional and I do not want to be a bargaining chip in political “jokes and banter”, says Sarafov.

He adds that Bulgaria is a country governed by the rule of law and “it is not clear to me how a representative of the legislative power can ask for the resignation of a magistrate from the independent judiciary, since none of my colleagues can afford to do the opposite”.
