“Cáritas Day Center Celebrates 2nd Anniversary of Helping Homeless People in La Línea de la Concepción”

Caritas, May 3, 2023.– The Day Center for Homeless People of Cáritas Diocesana de Cádiz has completed, last April, the second anniversary of its opening in La Línea de la Concepción. Since its launch in 2021, the center has provided assistance and support to a large number of homeless and vulnerable people in the town. Specifically, throughout these two years, 263 people have been treated (56 women and 207 men).

The Cáritas Day Center, located on Aurora street, is a welcoming space where homeless people can find a meeting space, coexistence, receive social care, advice and guidance for finding employment and housing, personal hygiene services , laundry and breakfast. Likewise, during this time, volunteers and technical personnel have carried out different awareness-raising actions in educational centers as well as street events on the occasion of the national campaign for homeless people.

Since its opening in April 2021, this project, through technical staff and volunteers, has offered essential services and emotional support. Thanks to their work, it has been possible to significantly improve the quality of life of the most needy and excluded people.

This Day Center is a commitment of Cáritas Diocesana de Cádiz to support the demand that the volunteering of the project “Coffee and Heat” street service, they had been carrying out for some years. Thanks to the initial funding from the Junta de Andalucía, this much-needed project was made a reality in the town, and has allowed us to take another step in caring for this group, addressing their social reality not only in the first line of intervention in the street, but on a more specialized level from personalized accompaniment. In this clear vocation to care for the homeless, the Day Center has been financed exclusively since 2023 with its own funds from Cádiz Diocesan Caritas.

On the occasion of this second anniversary, Cáritas wants to thank all the volunteers, priests, collaborators and donors who have supported the center during these two years. Their commitment and dedication have been essential for the Day Center to be able to move forward and fulfill its mission of helping the most vulnerable people in society.
