Every day you can read what NUjij’ers think of the news of the day. Today our climate reporter Jeroen Kraan wrote about the climate plan of Minister Rob Jetten (Climate). It has set aside 28 billion euros to further reduce CO2 emissions. Of that amount, 3 percent goes to Dutch people with a small wallet, for example for insulating rental houses. ‘Goedkoper zal het niet worden’
NUjij’er Matthijs_Mans: “Dhr. Jetten spreekt mooi over verplichte verduurzaming voor iedere Nederlander, maar ik zou totaal niet weten hoe ik extra zonnepanelen, een warmtepomp en twee elektrische auto’s moet gaan bekostigen. Uitbreiden hypotheek? Dacht het niet en ik heb ook niet ergens een zak geld liggen. Als Jan Modaal heb ik ook geen enkel recht op toeslagen. Klinkt leuk, maar praktisch heeft dhr. Jetten toch ergens een afslag gemist. Goedkoper zal het in elk geval niet worden..”
‘Elektrische auto is nog lang niet betaalbaar’
NUjij’er gewoon_doorgaan: “Het zijn onuitvoerbare plannen voor de gewone man. Een elektrische auto is nog lang niet betaalbaar en als ze dat wel zijn hebben ze een actieradius van 175/200 km waardoor je om de haverklap een uur staat bij te laden. Openbaar vervoer komt al lang niet meer in alle kernen omdat dit vanuit de marktwerking niet meer rendabel is.”
“En de aanschaf van een nieuwe cv-ketel met een warmtepomp kost zomaar 10.000 euro. Ik zou werkelijk niet weten waar ik dat geld vandaan moet halen. ‘We’ verarmen steeds verder voor een droom waarvan het maar de vraag is of die reëel haalbaar is wanneer niet de hele wereld er gelijktijdig aan meedoet. En ook dat ‘we’ is uiterst selectief, want de groep mensen die deze plannen voor ons verzint zit er voorlopig echt nog wel warmpjes bij. Ik hoop oprecht dat de wal dit schip gaat keren en dat hier bij komende verkiezingen al een begin mee wordt gemaakt. Zelfs wanneer dit betekent dat we dan maar uit de EU moeten stappen.”
‘This is not working at all’
NUjij’er Ericzh: “Jetten lives with his head in a paper reality and has no idea what impact his plans will have on the average Dutch person. Even I with a double average income will not be able in three years and a new central heating boiler and a hybrid heat pump to purchase, let alone that I could buy an electric car. In addition, you can shout that Technology Netherlands considers the plan of the Young regarding heat pumps ambitious but feasible, but how? How are we going to charge all those heat pumps and electric cars? heavy classic food network which is located in most cities and villages? I wish them luck, because it is not possible at all.”
‘Hydrogen is a fairy tale’
NUjij’er P_Daanen: “This is what you get when administrators who have no substantive knowledge become involved with changes and innovation. The civil servants they have to work with have also often had the wrong training to be able to understand this type of problem. People fall back on external advisers, who thanks to market forces, are often not really independent, usually because they also have major customers with serious interests.The gas industry is such a club, which, thanks to clever lobbying, has succeeded in convincing administrators such as Jetten and Timmermans that hydrogen is the sacred graal. It will generate capital for this unreliable industry. For more than ten years they have been spreading the hydrogen fairy tale through all kinds of channels. Green hydrogen production is expensive, costs a lot of electricity and the entire chain has a dramatically low return. Unfortunately, many believe in this fairy tale, tons of subsidy are wasted and many sustainability projects are delayed by it.”
‘Investment pays for itself faster than ever’
Climate reporter Jeroen Kraan responds to the above NUjij’ers: “It is understandable that many people are concerned about the affordability of the energy transition. On the other hand, we should not forget that people with solar panels have saved a lot of money in the past year. That investment pays for itself faster than ever. The (hybrid ) heat pump, households should ultimately save money on energy bills, especially if the price of gas remains relatively high.”
“The question is whether the subsidies from the government are sufficient to make the investment in such a heat pump feasible after all, and whether they reach enough people. It is not only the subsidies that play a role. The heat pump and the electric car will also increasingly become cheaper if more of them are made. But it is difficult to predict how fast that will go, and what a heat pump will cost in 2030, for example.”
